Yam Review *note Yahoo has discontinued the use of YCHT protocol

Yam:  Yam can be described as a "nifty" chat client.  It has the look and feel of Yahoo Messenger.  Its fairly easy to use and navigate perhaps the easiest of all the chat clients I have used.  Its a fairly small program that doesn't have a lot of bugs.  While the client is pretty tough to immediately boot from a chat room, I found that many attacks render it useless with address errors, that don't necessary crash client immediately.  Many styles of attacks are successful with prolonged use on YAM.  Although YAM has an auto relogon it never successfully relogged on after being booted in YCHT mode, it works really well in YMSG mode.

My personal study using actual booting software vs. this chat client I found that YAM  fended off only YMSG oriented attacks, only  8 / 18 booting attacks were actually stopped on extended booting attempts.  Almost any boot attack that was not oriented toward YMSG or CHAT2 will work on YAM with extended exposure.  In full button down mode with everything turned off.

Yam has a room bot filter and a PM bot filter, but no matter how I tried, occasional PM spam was leaking through that should have been caught by the spam filter.  The cam and mic work flawlessly on YAM.  But considering that this chat client does so poorly against booting attempts, and for some reason continues to let PM spam through, I am not sure why someone would want to use it.  I would recommend any of the other chat clients listed on my site before YAM.  Its has a slick interface and Cam and Mic work well, and the program is compact, but it doesn't achieve primary objective of stopping booters and bots.
